Trail at 1:00am. All ages. Get there early. Thursday -- March 16, 2006 Alamo Drafthouse Cinema 1120 South Lamar, Austin, TX Doors at 11:00pm. First come, first serve. Free admission. See below. Friday -- March 17th, 2006 Beauty Bar Austin 617 East 7th Street, Austin, TX Starts at 9:00pm. Trail at 12:30am. Free admission. 21+ A special screening of the previously unreleased "Following the Trail of Dead" documentary done by Dan Izen has just been added to the screenings on the 16th. It will be shown before the director's cut of the Worlds Apart bonus documentary, so get there early. Two Trail documentaries. What more can a person want? How awesome. In other matters, our very own socialite Jason Reece has acquired a stake in the Austin Beauty Bar and is now part owner. That means that if he breaks his drum kit into a million pieces during the show on the 17th, he'll likely be cleaning up the mess himself. Read here. As always, send queries in my general direction. P.S. The title of my last news post was in reference to an Arlo Guthrie song and had nothing to do with New Orleans. Some of you need to study up on your folk music history! Originally posted on trailofdead.com: Good morning America. How are you? Looks as if I'm getting back in the groove. Astonishing, isn't it? Well, maybe not so much considering there's no new content today. Only more good news for people in Austin (how uncanny) and some pleasant news for west coasters. Firstly, I'm pleased to announce that there will be a special screening, a world premiere no less, of the ...Trail of Dead: Home Videos documentary on March 16th in Austin. This is a director's cut of the documentary that was included on the Worlds Apart bonus DVD. It's the full-blown version including the shizzy Interscope didn't want you to see. Longer. Funnier. Weirder. Also shown will be a Rye Coalition documentary entitled "Rock 'n Roll Miracle." Here's the specs: Thursday -- March 16, 2006 Alamo Drafthouse Cinema 1120 South Lamar, Austin, TX Doors at 11:00pm. First come, first serve. Completely free admission. Contact: Jenni Matz In other first-rate news, Trail is confirmed to play the 2006 Sasquatch! Music Festival on May 26th in George, Washington (it's true). In an odd mishmash of bands, the boys will assault the main stage on the opening day sandwiched between Australian-bred Wolfmother and Finnish-bred HIM. Nine Inch Nails and a "surprise band" complete the bill for the first day, assuming the stage is still standing by then. For more on Sasquatch!, you can troll their official interweb site here. I think they're sending me a fancy banner ad soon... Originally posted on trailofdead.com: Yes, the rumors are true. Your prayers have been answered. The gods have called and their declarations have brought an overwhelming feeling of euphoria to all the land. Alas! We can be at peace. Trail of Dead will be playing the Kork Agency showcase at Emo's on Wednesday, March 15th (see here) as part of the South by Southwest festival. They play after Of Montreal at 1:00am in the morning, so if you only want to see Trail you might have to stand around for a while. But, you know, there's always beer to keep you occupied. In addition to the awe-inspiring showcase at Emo's, Trail will also be playing a free show outdoors at the Beauty Bar on Friday the 17th. No fancy SXSW wristbands will be needed for said show. Bring the entire family. A glorious sonic adventure will be had by all. In the mean time (I know you will all be hopped up on anticipation), join the board! That's where all the action is. Much, much more exciting than the happenings here. Feel free to indulge. P.S. My email is working again (finally, I know). If you've emailed me in the past, oh, I don't know, six months or so, feel free to mail me again and I will get back to you this time. Go for it. Originally posted on trailofdead.com: Can you believe that it's been a whole three hundred sixty-nine days since Worlds Apart was released in North America? It hardly seems to me like it's been that long. Maybe I'm just wondering where the year went. Oddly enough though, the boys are hard at work on a new record. From what I'm told (and mind you I'm not told much) work on the new record, in whatever form, is progressing. Early estimates point to the apocalypse dropping later in the year, but please don't quote me on that (take heed news sites). Webmasters are unreliable. The one area where nearly all webmasters are reliable is in the webmastering realm (while some wizardly-named ones remain randomly sporadic). Today I added a smattering of various media for your consideration. Most notably I added the video for Mistakes and Regrets, which many of you kindly pointed out you hadn't seen, to the media page here. Because that alone wouldn't have been enough (it's never enough for you people), I also added a rather large quantity of interviews here and a few sets of pictures to the gallery here. In quick succession (i.e. a couple days ago) I updated ToD's page on PureVolume here that we had all ignored for quite some time. Go stream some songs there, add Trail on Myspace here, and join the board here. They're all worth your while. More coming later on (hopefully). Originally posted on trailofdead.com: Hope you're all not too hung over from last night. I know I am. That last year went by fast. This new one will most certainly produce something of great relavance that'll tickle your fancy. A plethora of new ToD opuses for you to immerse yourself in, a new Morrissey record, and most importantly... more me! I've made two resolutions for myself this new year and rest assured that one of them is to get my shit together and not ignore this site so chronically. As my first act of the new year I've updated, well, everything. At least a little. Check it all out. Take a gander. Browse the catalog. There's plenty to see and seeing it all will see yourself fulfilled. It's also a good way to waste time if you're at school or work (assuming you work or go to school today). Visit the media page for a couple leftovers from the trailofdead.org days. Go for the gold: (Random links to things). I forgot what I was working on before I took my hiatus, so once I figure that out (believe me, I will eventually) expect to see many, many more updates here soon after. In other news, I still haven't sorted out my email, so, you know, don't email me. Sorry. If you have questions or comments I'm available on the board, as well as Myspace and AIM (if you have ESP and can find me, or just want to make the effort). From everyone in the Trail of Dead camp: Happy new year! P.S. Stay safe, be cool, and have a great year. Originally posted on trailofdead.com: Conrad Keely reporting: Regarding this e.p., as per the recent discussions on the forum, we are still in negotiation as to whether to make this an e.p. or the beginning of the next record. Thank you everyone for your esteemed opinions. Speaking for myself, the rest of the band, and our producer, we are of the "next record" opinion. In the event that what we are recording is the next record, then we will continue to work on it through the winter and hopefully be done by early spring - ready for a late spring/summer of fall release (you know how these things go.) If it is an e.p. then we will just put out four songs by spring. As to its contents all I can say is, if you thought Worlds Apart was weird, then this is weirder. As for myself, I am currently (in other words, as we speak) working on an album cover for my friends' band "The Sword;" it keeps me busy when I am not hunting wildlife. Both James Olsen and myself are hoping to host another art show, perhaps this time in New York or Los Angeles. Although most of the artwork that is associated with our albums is not for sale per se, we do sell prints of the work. Look for that when the moon rises o'er yon hill. In other completely unrelated news, I am continuing to work on my science fiction novel, not due any time soon. It has been a work in progress for fifteen years in a world that I began around the age of ten. As far as geekdom goes, it is far into that realm as one could possibly hope to venture. I hope to have a finished manuscript within the next four years but again you never know. Oh and what about music? I am constantly into hearing cool new things. Today I ran across a remarkable e.p. by an artist who calls herself White Magic, entitled "Through the Sun Door." I have no idea how this ended up on my iTunes library, but it was bad ass. Thanks to my mother for kindly taking dictation while I am sifting through my art book library collection looking for graphic styles to apply to The Sword album cover. She's good at making a cup of tea, too. As for this evening's musical ventures, I am off to Emo's to see my friend James Olsen's band with his friends Will and Lilly Courtney called "The Brothers and Sisters." We had the pleasure of working with the Courtney's who assisted with back up vocals on our recent tracks. Then we will see the Black Angels. Y'all be real groovy, y'hear? Conrad Keely Originally posted on trailofdead.com: Woe is me! Updates! I apologize for being a tad, err, invisible these past few months. I've had a rather unexpected and unfortunate string of luck pass my way. Fortunately, for yours truly, I'm starting to see a faint sign of light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately, for all other tormented souls, nothing groundbreaking has happened since I disappeared. The boys are working on new material for a new something or other, but who cares about that?! We'll talk about that later (give me a bit to sort out my emails). As penance for my sins, and payment for your thoughtful toils that placed trailofdead.com as the 22nd(!) most popular band/artist related site on the web (check it out here) in the Digital Music Awards, I have a gift for you! Live videos straight from riots long ago in Paris. See? I do appreciate you. Visit the media page here. I'll have more for everyone in a little while when I can get back onto my Trail-specific computer (can't do everything from a laptop). If I haven't responded to your emails for the past two months and change, well, there's your reason. I'm still finding my bearings. More soon. Pray you now, forget and forgive! Originally posted on trailofdead.com: Been a while since I've updated and I apologize. Things are a bit slow in the ToD news world at the moment. To make up for my lack of updating, I have a wonderfully special video for you to enjoy. People were almost killed (literally) in order to bring you this video. A bit more than half a year ago the boys were playing the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival in England. Christian, Trail's long-time booking agent, was standing at the side of the stage taping some video. At the end of a steming rendition of "Totally Natural," a young furious fiend named Danny Wood decided he'd had enough of his bass guitar. So he threw it. Right at Christian. Luckily Christian had quick reflexes, and enough sense, to duck. Otherwise he may not be with us today. To make a very long story short, the moral is this: If you're ever at a Trail of Dead show, watch out for Danny Wood's flying bass guitars. He's a complete madman! You can watch the events unfold for yourself here. To turn this into a somewhat normal update, I've also added a lyrics section to this website. It has all the official lyrics that I've compiled over the years. Check that shit out here. Originally posted on trailofdead.com: Greetings loyal fans. As I've stated before, I've been working hard on the site and today you'll be able to check out some fruits of my labor. Firstly, the tabs (or tablature) page is now open for business. Some of the tabs are by Conrad and some of the tabs are by fans. There was high demand for an official tabs page, so here it is. Enjoy. Also new today is what I'm calling the "Tech Wizard" page (go figure!). It's a collection of selected answers from our technical contact page (see my last news post) where you can ask our local expert Gil about anything Trail. There isn't much there yet because Gil is currently in Europe with Yo La Tengo, but things will slowly but surely be added in the future. Check that out here and check out the new tunings page I've put up for all you guitar players here. More new sections are forthcoming. For now, enjoy today's updates and explore the rest of the site. It really is quite interesting. Originally posted on trailofdead.com: Hello valued patrons. I've been working day and night (mostly night, because I wilt if exposed to light) on expanding this site's content. Yesterday I added a technical contact page where you can ask all your technical questions. Want to know about ToD's equipment? The live setups? Tunings? Well now you have someone to ask. Gil, our beloved guitar tech and gear wizard, has graciously taken on the job. You can submit all your in depth questions here. I've also added some bits to my Lollapalooza press exposé. Sections of the site in progress (from most to least completed): a massive guitar tabs page, revamped online store, complete tour history, and an expanded discography. This site has just started to kick and it'll certainly continue. News may be a bit scarce for the next few months, but I'll still be here rambling. Keep submitting! |
