"Trail of Dead's CD delivers raw, spontaneous punk"

This is my new favorite record, and it sports perhaps the best band name since Australia's "The Makers Of the Dead Travel Fast" called it quits. The Trail's new CD, sounding as if it was recorded live in the studio, blasts through musical history like a roller coaster.

No doubt a good producer could do wonders with the band's sound, but better production might also make The Trail sound like everyone else. At one point the singer is aping the late Kurt Cobain's screaming chorus from "Smells Like Teen Spirit," and in the next moment there's a big Keith Moon-style drum demolition.

Then there's "A Perfect Teenhood," which starts with Sonic Youthian deconstructed drones before blasting into super-charged punk a la the Bad Brain's "Pay To Cum". This is a great CD

Note: Tucker begins every review he writes with "This is my new favorite record".
