(Aaaargh! Someone call the abbreviation police!) are a far more exciting
proposition. Drowning the stage in feedback, air punching and hyperactivity, the
Texan five-piece are primed to take the award for most impressively maturing US
alt guitar rawk. They’ve been knocking around a bit, but a major label deal
seems to have given them the lift they need to take them on to the next level.

here for …Trial of Dead, obviously, Madonna being one of my favourite records
of the last few years. This is one of the annual awards shows set up by the
cruel, Ming the Merciless-like dictator of our nation’s youth, the once quite

exciting new musical talent” or some such, but really they’re the result of
the slightly less dignified process of grabbing all the bands they can afford to
pay and sticking them together, four a night, in a vague kind of order. | |

outfit have made the US-punk-rock-outsider persona their own. Black Rebel
Motorcycle Club are mere pretenders by comparison to a band with so many battle
scars. | |
