ToD Distance Themselves from Dreadful "Naked Sun" Video 01/29/2007 -- by merlin
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Interscope recording artists ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead have taken the curious step of distancing themselves from the music video for their newest single "Naked Sun" citing non-approval and non-involvement, causing many fans to call into question the competency of the band's label.
The egregious video for "Naked Sun" features a pack of wild Hispanic children wandering through the desert, coming under attack by a group of trigger-shy pacifist hunters who eventually fall victim to the children's psycho-kinetic hand-spawned silly string powers, thus turning the hunters, almost expectedly, into psychedelic belly dancing jezebels. Video director Cat Solen, who has previously crafted videos of questionable constitution for Death Cab for Cutie and Bright Eyes, has remained mum over her newest apocryphal endeavor, but Trail of Dead drummer and frontman Jason Reece took to the airwaves shortly after the video's internet surfacing to wholeheartedly condemn its existence. "We never said yes to any of these ideas. I hate this video and the band hates this video. What more is there to say? If we need to break in to Interscope headquarters with all guns blazing and steal the original reel in order to prevent people from being thoroughly traumatized by this thing, then so be it."
In addition to praying for the video's eventual annihilation, Trail of Dead also hope it will avoid airplay on major music video networks and simply remain an internet monstrosity. "We haven't had much luck with videos since Source Tags [and Codes] and I suppose this is the turd-flavored icing on the cake," reads an unnamed band member's posting on the band's message board. "Hopefully we'll get to do another video this year where we're actually involved. If we had had a say in the video, the first thing we'd have done is make those pansy hunters pull their fucking triggers."
The festering abomination that is the video for "Naked Sun" can be seen on YouTube or through Yahoo! Videos.
