Trail of Dead to Forgo Releasing "So Divided" Singles, B-Sides 03/05/2007 -- by merlin
ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) -- At a show yesterday in Zurich, Texas folk heroes ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead announced to an awe-struck crowd that they will not be releasing any singles from their album "So Divided", choosing instead to concentrate on future tour dates and their next full-length record.
Frontman Conrad Keely made the shock declaration before starting "Stand in Silence", the only song the band have been playing from "So Divided". "This [will be] the last time you're going to hear anything from our [current] record played [in Switzerland]," witnesses report Keely as saying. "No more singles, no b-sides. We're going to start recording again after our tour is over." Immediately after the show, band member Jason Reece made a move to further explain his co-frontman's announcement and reassure worried fans. "There's no reason to be alarmed, man. We're only doing what we think is the best move for our present situation," said Reece. "Everything is cool with our label. They had no problem with our decision. This tour has been amazing so far-- the fans, the bands, everyone. We have so many ideas floating around right now we felt it was the right time to take those ideas back to [the studio in] Austin and get to work. Why wait if you have ideas flowing like Parisian wine?"
Reece continued by explaining the band's pestiferous plight in regards to B-sides in general. "The truth is we haven't ever written a B-side. You gotta understand that it's extremely difficult to craft enough songs to fill a whole record, let alone write even more songs to serve as add-ons for singles. Why can't we just recycle the songs that didn't make the album cut? Simply because that isn't how we make records. We write the album as one piece of music and then break each portion into an individual track. We'd release the whole album as one track if we could. Do you think anyone would look at the Mona Lisa if it were broken up into bits and pieces? Of course not."
Trail of Dead have eight more shows left on their European tour before returning home to the United States.
