Trail of Dead Plan to Tour Europe Throughout August 05/14/2007 -- by merlin
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Texas nu-indie virtuosos ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead have announced plans for a limited festival tour of Europe in August, ditching their jaded North American fanbase in favor of a second consecutive junket through the old continent.
Controversial band member and entrepreneur Jason Reece, speaking to fans via Trail of Dead's official message board, said the tour had nothing to do with the band's uncanny distaste for aloof North American audiences, but was based entirely on collective sales from their last full-length album, November's "So Divided". "I just got the dates for a month of touring in Europe," read Reece's post. "We will be playing Germany (a bunch of dates), Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, Italy, London, Holland, Belgium, and Portugal. This tour starts in August. There are a lot of festival dates and a few club shows, so when it becomes set in stone the dates will be posted. Sorry to all our North American friends. We still love you, but our label wouldn't let us tour in the States because of the record selling so poorly and the backlash from the 'Naked Sun' video. Maybe next album."
Reece's band mate Conrad Keely, however, explained the decision to tour Europe ahead of North America was far less complicated than that. "It wasn't a difficult decision at all, really," asserted the frontman at an Interscope-sponsored media luncheon on Saturday. "We called up our booking agent, [each of us] gave a few countries we wanted to visit, and voila, a new tour." Keely continued to contradict his energetic band mate later when he claimed the band had made a conscious personal and professional decision to skip North America. "If you had to choose between pristine mountains, medieval cathedrals, and angelic women, or corn fields, Wal-Marts, and methed-up lepers, which would you pick?"
An official list of the August dates has yet to be announced.
