ToD Members Barred from Austin July 4th Festivities 07/02/2007 -- by merlin
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- For the second time in under a year, members of the popular rock group ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead have been detained by police in connection with illicit July 4th celebrations, according to various reports emerging from of the Texas state capital.
At a small press conference for anxious local media Sunday afternoon, acting Chief of Police Cathy Ellison refused to confirm the names or transgressions of any recently apprehended suspects. "Do to the sensitivity of this issue and out of respect for the rights of those in custody, I will not reveal the names of anyone involved. Having said that, I can confirm that two middle-aged Caucasian men with histories of July 4th disturbances were removed from the vicinity of City Hall at six o'clock this morning by a pair of officers on a routine patrol. The officers observed the two men in question loitering around newly gated areas for about ten minutes before confronting them. The two men resisted and were eventually pinned to the ground and arrested. We have ruled out terrorism as a possible motive. At this time, that is all the information we are making available to the public. All of the city's July 4th celebrations will proceed as scheduled."
Interscope spokesman Randy Michaels confirmed that a pair of Trail of Dead members were detained on Sunday, but was unable to reveal their identities or the extent of the charges filed against them. "I can tell you members of the band become involved with police this morning in Austin. We haven't been given any further details of the incident." Michaels was, however, able to reveal the fate of the two judicially indentured musicians. "They are each under house arrest until Thursday morning. That's all I can say for now. Unfortunately they won't be taking part in any of Austin's official July 4th activities, which, if I can be frank here for a moment, is probably for their immediate benefit in light of past exploits."
Last year, an unconfirmed number of Trail of Dead members were arrested after they ignited several American flags at a low-key July 4th party in downtown Austin.
