trail of dead kick-off european tour in americaBROOKLYN, New York (AP) -- Continental hopping rockers ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead kicked off their European tour this past Thursday in America with a show at Brooklyn's historic Luna Lounge, their first with newly hired replacement drummer Aaron Ford.

Thursday's show marked Trail of Dead's first public performance in almost six months, and the first on American soil in nearly a year.  Frontman Conrad Keely branded the show as "moderately successful" and hailed the first performance of their contentious single "Naked Sun" as a step forward for the band.  "Yeah, I'm happy with how things turned out.  Probably because we made it through 'Naked Sun' without having to start over," Keely remarked.  "It took a good month of rehearsing before the show to get it right.  Hopefully we'll be able to keep playing it this tour and into the future.  Lately we've only been playing older songs because they're better, but I think the success of this single performance might make me consider throwing a few more of the newer songs into the setlist.  It will be a lot easier to do that now since we've gone back to the two drummer setup.  It keeps everyone involved and prevents nihilistic type complacency from setting in between songs."

Ford, a one-off touring replacement for regular second-string percussionist Doni Schroader, was also pleased with his debut despite feeling somewhat out of place.  "I felt somewhat out of place," Ford told a group of interested reporters after the show.  "I think [the guys] held off on their drinking because I was around.  I'm not entirely sure because obviously I'm new, but I've seen them several times and each time they seemed [like they were] completely hammered.  Then again, it is only the first show.  Maybe they pace themselves. Maybe they just need time to warm up."

Trail of Dead's European tour continues throughout August and into the early days of September.  An itinerary can be found here.
