Trail of Dead Enter DMA 2007 Despite Organizer Misgivings

trail of dead looking to cheat their way to victoryLONDON, England (BBC) -- Internet savvy rockers ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead have once again thrown their hat into the ring for the People's Choice Award at the 2007 BT Digital Music Awards, despite continuing accusations of cyber intimidation and ballot stuffing that marred their 13th place finish last year.

Primary competition sponsors BT were reportedly deeply unnerved upon receiving the news Trail of Dead had once more entered their prestigious internet music website voting competition, going so far as to officially request competition officials withdraw the band's entry.  In spite of abiding bad press and threats from their primary sponsor, senior competition officials were unwilling to hastily rush to judgment, preferring instead to wait it out.  "Obviously we're skeptical of their motives," remarked contest supervisor and internet voting security expert Roger Dorn.  "When results are so skewed in favor of contestants with relatively miniscule fanbases, it's hard not to become suspicious.  Last year was a prime example.  This year, however, we feel we are infinitely more well prepared to handle any claims of foul play that may come our way.  Of course unless we have some hard factual evidence backing up a few of these claims, in the end, there's nothing we can do but go forward with the voting and congratulate them if they place well."

Co-frontman and business entrepreneur Jason Reece brushed aside the accusations, saying Trail of Dead were only in the competition for their fans.  "Everything we do is for them and this is no different," said a brusque Reece.  "Our fans are a bunch of highly motivated individuals and they gave us a result which we feel was fully deserved.  This year we're hoping for more of the same.  Regardless of what has been said, we have never been involved in any ballot stuffing, espionage, or wiretapping.  There was no hush money fueled cover up last year.  Anyone who says Interscope [Records] paid large sums of money to keep these hackers quiet clearly isn't aware that when it comes to us, Interscope aren't the least bit interested."
