ToD Surprise Steadfast Norse Fans with October Fly-in 09/26/2007 -- by merlin
TRONDHEIM, Norway (AP) -- High-flying shock rockers ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead have rewarded their legions of fans in Norway by announcing a special one-off show on October 14th in recognition of the country's unwavering support and amorous hospitality.
The atypical micro-tour will take place in Trondheim at the Storsalen Studentersamfundet, an event, pending support bands, looking increasingly likely to become the longest show billing on record. Trail of Dead semi-frontman and piano aesthete Conrad Keely explained why his band chose Norway over several other equally deserving European nations. "It was the heritage, really," said Keely, himself an ardent supporter of mythology and ancient war-seeking cultures. "Wherever you set foot in Norway, there it is. Staring you straight in the eye. Statues, longboats, fjords, little gremlins in hats. I wouldn't necessarily compare and contrast all Norwegians against Vikings, but the lineage is obvious. Everyone agreed we had to go back. What a great society to immerse yourself in. I can see why Erik the Red was so distraught when he was exiled. "
Co-frontman Jason Reece was equal in his praise. "It isn't as if the other countries in Europe have treated us so badly, it's just that Norway has always been so amazing." He cites an Oya Festival stop in Oslo from their most recent European tour as a prime example. "The weather wasn't the greatest, we started late, our sound was bad, most songs seemed out of tune, Donny our tech had to fill in for Danny on bass, Aaron [Ford] was still learning the songs, Conrad's voice had seen better days, and we were all hung-over. Still, the crowd stuck by us for the whole hour."
Reece admits he wouldn't be against future old continent fly-ins to honor loyal acts of fandom. "If we can get Interscope to pay for it, I could see us doing this every couple months."
